The love story between Meg and Hercules is relatable for teenagers. Hercules is in love with Meg from the start and cannot help but go dumb when he tries to talk to her. Every teenage boy or girl experiences this at one point or another. The boy wants to talk to a pretty girl ,but when he actually walks up to her his mouth feels like it's full of cotton balls, and he cannot seem to get any intelligible words out. Likewise, the girl walks up to a good looking guy and makes a fool of herself trying to impress him. This is shown in the movie after Hercules defeats Nessus and approaches Meg. She asks him his name and he stutters so much that Meg interrupts him to make fun of him for it. Also, in this scene Phil is trying to talk to Hercules and Hercules sees Meg and walks away from Phil when he was mid-sentence. Furthermore, he walks right by Pegasus, who is trying to give Hercules a high-five, because Hercules is too distracted to give his friends the light of day. This is a very common phenomenon amongst teenagers. A group of friends will go to a party or other social event. They plan to have fun with each other, but one member of the group sees an attractive person and gets so distracted by trying to talk to that person that they end up ignoring the whole group of friends. This causes tension in the group, as shown by Pegasus. Pegasus reacts immediately by growling and making fun of Meg as shown below.
Another example of what teenagers can relate to in Hercules is when Phil is trying to convince Hercules that Meg is bad for him. Hercules is blinded by love so he tries to calmly reassure Phil. The argument gets more heated and ends with Hercules hitting Phil and Phil walking off as if he has given up on Hercules. This is something teenagers know all to well. This happens a lot, a guy will be so oblivious that he's hurting some of the people closest to him just so he can impress or be closer to a girl or vis versa. Teenagers relate to this very well.
There is also the appeal of the happily ever after at the end. Hercules has been working his whole life to be accepted by the Gods so that he can live amongst them on Mt. Olympus. He comes to the decision between living forever with the Gods or living the rest of his mortal life with Meg, his true love. He hardly even thinks about it before choosing, what is, the obvious choice to him. He chooses to stay on earth with Meg. Everyone teen dreams of having that fairytale love story where someone chooses you or where you find someone that you're willing to sacrifice for.
